Partendo dal fatto che campionare Popcorn di Gershon Kingsley (ma portata al successo interplanetario dagli Hot Butter nel 1972, e vi assicuro che me la ricordo benissimo) e costruirci sopra 2 Die 4 è stata una cosa geniale, Tove Lo ci ha abituati a cose geniali. Il suo quinto album è ancora una volta pieno di singoli che una volta avremmo potuto definire riempipista, collaborazioni prevedibili (SG Lewis, Channel Tres) ed altre molto meno (le connazionali First Aid Kit su Cute & Cruel), e questa sua attitudine sfrontata, che non le impedisce di scrivere canzoni pop che, nella miglior tradizione del genere, ti entrano in testa e non ne escono neppure con le bombe. A proposito di cose geniali, lanciare il primo singolo infilandolo nella colonna sonora di Euphoria (How Long), o campionare anche You Spin Me Round (Like a Record) degli indimenticabili Dead or Alive per Call on Me sono solo altre prove della capacità dell'artista svedese. Il ritornello di No One Dies for Love o l'incedere maestoso della (potenziale) power ballad I'm to Blame sono altre cose che generano invidia in altri musicisti.

Starting from the fact that sampling Gershon Kingsley's Popcorn (but brought to interplanetary success by Hot Butter in 1972, and I assure you that I remember it very well) and building 2 Die 4 on it was a brilliant thing, Tove Lo has accustomed us to brilliant things. Her fifth album is once again filled with what once might have been called "dancefloor fill singles", predictable collaborations (SG Lewis, Channel Tres) and much less so (fellow compatriots First Aid Kit on Cute & Cruel), and this cheeky attitude, which doesn't stop her from writing pop songs that, in the best tradition of the genre, get into your head and don't even come out with bombs. Speaking of genius, launching the first single by slipping it into the soundtrack of Euphoria (How Long), or even sampling You Spin Me Round (Like a Record) by the unforgettable Dead or Alive for Call on Me are just more proof of the ability of the Swedish artist. The refrain of No One Dies for Love or the majestic gait of the (potential) power ballad I'm to Blame are other things that generate envy in other musicians.
