Il Mar Mediterraneo, tra il 1200 ed il 1300, divenne teatro di una lotta senza quartiere, soprattutto tra le due Repubbliche Marinare più potenti: Genova e Venezia. Le date, i motivi, le dinamiche, raccontate dal giovane storico genovese specializzato in storia marittima e navale del medioevo.
Scherzando, parlando con amici, dissi che stavo leggendo questo libro per assicurarmi che, in effetti, anche a quei tempi, i pisani non contassero granché. Ovviamente, questo libro non dice ciò, al contrario, ma è vero che l'egemonia, soprattutto a quei tempi, era appannaggio di Genova e Venezia. E la lotta fu affascinante, così come la differenza tra le due potenze. Ovviamente ci sono molte date, in questo libro, ma tutto sommato si fa leggere bene, e avvince.
