The Mars Volta - The Mars Volta (2022)

Ha ragione (mi scuso se cito sempre questa testata, ma un po' di aiuto mi serve) Matthew Ismael Ruiz su Pitchfork: non è chiarissimo perché Omar Rodríguez-López e Cedric Bixler-Zavala abbiano voluto far uscire un disco di musica così lontana da quella che fin'ora avevano inciso con quel nome, come Mars Volta, visto che comunque, hanno un sacco di progetti collaterali, e non si sono mai peritati a fondare band insieme. Il mistero rimarrà, mentre ascoltiamo questo strano, ma piacevole, disco. Jazz e pop insieme, una spruzzata di echi caraibici, con delle liriche un po' più chiare del solito, e per niente "felici". Un contrasto spiazzante, come del resto tutto quello che hanno fatto fino ad oggi: non sarà né il loro disco migliore, né il disco dell'anno, ma hanno tutto il mio rispetto per provarci sempre. 

He's right (I apologize if I always mention this magazine, but sometimes I need some help) Matthew Ismael Ruiz on Pitchfork: it's not very clear why Omar Rodríguez-López and Cedric Bixler-Zavala wanted to release a record of music so far from the one that until now they had recorded with that name, like Mars Volta, since anyway, they have a lot of side projects, and they have never perished to found bands together. The mystery will remain as we listen to this strange, but enjoyable, record. Jazz and pop together, a sprinkle of Caribbean echoes, with lyrics a little clearer than usual, and not at all "happy". A surprising contrast, like everything they have done up to now: it will not be their best album, nor the album of the year, but they have all my respect to always try.
