The Sick, the Dying... and the Dead! - Megadeth (2022)

Dave Mustaine, 61 anni, reduce da poco da un cancro alla gola, personaggio controverso, passato attraverso molti cambiamenti, e nonostante tutto, ancora in piedi. Qui, la sua creatura, i Megadeth, arrivano al sedicesimo album in studio, con una formazione ancora una volta, cambiata: alla batteria arriva il belga Dirk Verbeuren, già con i Soilwork, viene confermato, dopo Dystopia, il brasiliano Kiko Loureiro, e, seppur non inserito nella formazione ufficiale, ma citato solo nella lista dei "musicisti aggiuntivi", il basso è suonato dall'ottimo Steve Di Giorgio (al momento ancora ufficialmente nei Testament), che ha ri-registrato tutte le parti già incise da David Ellefson, licenziato in seguito ad uno scandalo a sfondo sessuale, del quale forse avrete sentito parlare. Fatta la doverosa "lista della spesa", veniamo alla musica: il mio pensiero, dopo diversi ascolti, è che lo stile dei Megadeth invecchi meglio di quello dei Metallica, a dispetto delle copie vendute e della minore celebrità. Rimane sempre uguale a se stesso, ma conserva quell'appeal che, a noi della "vecchia guardia" metal, piace.

Here, his creature, Megadeth, arrive at the sixteenth studio album, with a changed line-up once again: the Belgian Dirk Verbeuren arrives on drums, already with Soilwork, the Brazilian Kiko Loureiro is confirmed, after Dystopia, and, although not included in the official line-up, but mentioned only in the list of "additional musicians", the bass is played by the excellent Steve Di Giorgio (currently still officially a member of Testament), who re-recorded all the parts already recorded by David Ellefson, fired following a sex scandal, which you may have heard of. Done with the necessary "shopping list", we arrive to the music: my thought, after several listenings, is that the style of Megadeth ages better than that of Metallica, despite the copies sold and the minor celebrity. It always remains the same, but retains that appeal that we of the "old school" metal like.
