Currency of Man - Melody Gardot (2015)

La black music è evidente in pezzi quali It Gonna Come, She Don't Know, Same To You, la già citata Preacherman, mentre negli altri l'artista torna ai classici standard jazz, scrivendo altri gioiellini quali Morning Sun, If Ever I Recall Your Face, lo struggente strumentale After the Rain, e la mia preferita, la straordinaria Once I Was Loved, da brividoni. Ancora una volta, bravissima.

Over a year after its release, I can finally talk about the fourth American artist album, one of the few who can make me listen to jazz effortlessly. The yet another beautiful album, dotted with delicate and exceptional songs for workmanship, strength, writing, lyrics, vocal and instrumental proofs. In addition to classic jazz influences, blues and bossa nova, Gardot was been conquered by the black music, gospel, funk and soul, and deals with the burning issue of racism: the single "Preacherman" is inspired by the sad American history's page about the death of Emmett Till. Black music is evident in tracks like "It Gonna Come", "She Don't Know", "Same To You", the aforementioned "Preacherman", while in the other, the artist returns to the classic jazz standards, writing other gems such as "Morning Sun", "If Ever I Recall Your Face", the poignant instrumental "After the Rain", and my favorite, the extraordinary "Once I Was Loved", that gives me super-chills. Again, very very good.
