One of Us Is the Killer - The Dillinger Escape Plan (2013)

The reason why I have not reviewed at the time this record, from one of the bands that I loved the most in recent years, is that after two albums of the highest level such as the previous "Option Paralysis" (2010) and "Ire Works" (2007), I hadn't more to say, probably, because I reviewed them as well three times live, and as you may recall, the live gigs of DEP are the best of the known Universe, without question. Now, respecting the rule of three years, is approaching the release of new "Dissociation", so it seemed right to me to resume listening to the "One of Us Is the Killer", just to remind you to stay alert.
Research to fuse extreme violence, but controlled, ultra-fine technique, and enveloping melodies, maintaining a very high voltage throughout the life of the album (40 minutes), continues with good results, despite the history of the line-up of this band is one of the hardest I've ever read (continuous changes of drummer, initial difficulties to find the right vocalist, also very serious injuries - some even on stage, and who has seen them in action certainly will understand, among other things, changes in the line-up continues even are witnessed by the existence of a dedicated entry on Wikipedia). Is an example of all "Paranoia Shields" with his jazz break and a superb vocal performance of Puciato, impressive on this album more than usual, closer to the extreme versatility of Mike Patton, one of the "guardians" of the band. Note the piece that gives title to the disc (in the version of Best Buy also is present an interesting remix version), "Nothing's Funny" (always in the Best Buy version on the demo version), "Magic That I Held You Prisoner", but the entire album is scattered with delights for those who want to discover the beauty in the details, a bit as in a painting by Bosch. Stay tuned for the latest news: but be careful, because the founder Ben Weinman has already announced on his Instagram that the band will go on an indefinite hiatus, immediately after the subsequent tour to the publication of the next "Dissociation" (scheduled for October 14, 2016).
