Caravans to the Outer Worlds - Enslaved (2021)
Un EP contenente quattro tracce, seppure a guardar bene le tracce siano due e, in mezzo (e in coda) ci siano due intermezzi (chiamati proprio così, Intermezzo I e Intermezzo II), a un anno esatto dall'uscita dell'ultimo album, il maestoso Utgard, ci mostra, a mio giudizio, la band norvegese in ottima forma, a livello di ispirazione e composizione. Il metal continua ad essere alla base della loro ricerca musicale, ma ormai è il trampolino per lo slancio nel campo di una sorta di progressive rock molto oscuro, dove convivono riff solidi e tastiere ad effetto, lunghe fughe strumentali, poco cantato sporco. Certo, la traccia iniziale che dà pure il titolo all'EP, è certo un esempio di integrazione ben riuscita delle due "anime" della band.
An EP containing four tracks, although if you look closely there are two tracks and, in the middle (and in the tail) there are two interludes, exactly one year after the release of the last album , the majestic Utgard, shows us, in my opinion, the Norwegian band in excellent shape, in terms of inspiration and composition. Metal continues to be the basis of their musical research, but by now it is the springboard for the momentum in the field of a sort of very dark progressive rock, where solid riffs and effect keyboards coexist, long instrumental fugues, little harsh singing. Of course, the initial track that also gives the title to the EP, is certainly an example of successful integration of the two "souls" of the band.
