Utgard - Enslaved (2020)

Degno successore del precedente E del 2017, il quindicesimo disco in studio della band norvegese Utgard vede Iver Sandøy (che in precedenza aveva co-prodotto molti degli album della band) alla batteria al posto di Cato Bekkevold, e il titolo fa riferimento ad una località della mitologia nord europea, includendo alcuni testi e titoli di canzoni in norreno, come ad esempio Jettegryta, uno dei singoli che hanno anticipato il disco, con video girato in Islanda. Il disco continua il lavoro di ricerca e di fusione tra black metal e prog rock anni '70, con risultati davvero interessanti, riuscendo a creare un'atmosfera mitologica senza cadere nel kitsch (come invece capita con altre band che si ispirano a quella mitologia). Davvero bravi.

Worthy successor to the previous E from 2017, Norwegian band Utgard's fifteenth studio record sees Iver Sandøy (who previously co-produced several of the band's albums) on drums in place of Cato Bekkevold, and the title references a location of Norse mythology, including some lyrics and song titles in Old Norse, such as Jettegryta, one of the singles that anticipated the album, with video shot in Iceland. The album continues the research work and the fusion between black metal and prog rock of the 70s, with really interesting results, managing to create a mythological atmosphere without falling into kitsch (as happens with other bands inspired by that mythology). Really good.
