Back of My Mind - H.E.R. (2021)
Debutto sulla lunga distanza per la già acclamata Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson, (H.E.R. sta per Having Everything Revealed) madre filippina e padre afro-americano, da Vallejo, California, fattasi le ossa fin da piccola esibendosi con cover di Alicia Keys e Aretha Franklin e lavorando in televisione. Il suo è un RNB molto vellutato e sinuoso, che flirta pure con il dub step ed altri generi sempre "black", una bella voce e begli arrangiamenti, collaborazioni importanti, una vaga somiglianza con il lavoro di Lauryn Hill (che campiona in Cheat Code); sarà che forse sono "stanco" di questo genere, non mi ha particolarmente colpito, e le grandi artiste in questo campo mi sembrano ancora molto lontane.
Full length debut for the already acclaimed Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson, (H.E.R. stands for Having Everything Revealed) Filipino mother and African-American father, from Vallejo, California, made her bones from an early age performing with covers of Alicia Keys and Aretha Franklin and working on TV. Her is a very velvety and sinuous RNB, which also flirts with dub step and other "black" genres, a beautiful voice and perfect arrangements, important collaborations, a vague resemblance to the work of Lauryn Hill (which she samples in Cheat Code); maybe I am "tired" of this genre, I was not particularly impressed, and the great artists in this field still seem very far away.
