Multitudes - Feist (2023)

Leslie Feist giunge al sesto album dopo sei anni dal precedente Pleasure e soprattutto, dopo alcuni avvenimenti importantissimi per lei: l'abbandono del tour con gli Arcade Fire (dopo che il loro frontman Win Butler è stato accusato di molestie sessuali), l'adozione di una figlia, la morte del padre. Nonostante la segua fin dai suoi esordi e abbia amato tutto quello che ha prodotto, al primo ascolto questo disco mi ha lasciato interdetto. Ma spesso il primo impatto è soggetto a una serie infinita di variabili: adesso che l'ho ascoltato con più attenzione e dedizione, posso garantirvi che anche questo Multitudes, che è stato lanciata prima ancora dell'uscita dell'album come esperienza live intima e comunitaria, e che lei stessa ha definito il frutto delle esperienze citate in apertura, più la pandemia, è esattamente così, intimo, comunitario nel senso che molte delle esperienze narrate possono essere di chiunque, oltre che bellissimo (seppure, come ebbi a dire anni addietro, la voce di Feist saprebbe rendere bellissimo anche la lettura di un qualsiasi elenco telefonico).

Leslie Feist reaches the sixth album after six years from the previous Pleasure and above all, after some very important events for her: the abandonment of the tour with Arcade Fire (after their frontman Win Butler was accused of sexual harassment), the adoption of a daughter, the death of the father. Although I had followed her since her inception and I had loved everything she has produced, at first listen of this album I was dumbfounded. But often the first impact is subject to an infinite series of variables: now that I've listened to it with more attention and dedication, I can assure you that this Multitudes too, which was launched even before the album's release as an intimate and communal experience live, and which she herself defined as the result of the experiences mentioned at the beginning, plus the pandemic, is exactly like this, intimate, communal in the sense that many of the experiences narrated can be anyone's, as well as beautiful (although, as I said years earlier, Feist's voice would make even reading any telephone directory beautiful).
