Kob - Arkona (2023)

Nono album per la band russa, a cinque anni dal precedente Khram. L'impatto può essere difficile, i suoni sono un po' datati (volutamente, come buona parte del black metal di stampo scandinavo), almeno, a me continuano a risultare così, ma è innegabile che la band di Maria Arkhipova (una voce davvero camaleontica) abbia ambizioni che vanno al di là del "semplice" black metal. Folk metal progressivo, liriche vagamente apocalittiche che, chissà, forse celano tra le righe critiche alla madrepatria, un disco roccioso e interessante nel suo genere, e gli Arkona che si propongono come unica alternativa valida che potrebbe raggiungere i mai troppo rimpianti rumeni Negură Bunget.

Ninth album for the Russian band, five years after the previous Khram. The impact can be difficult, the sounds are a bit dated (deliberately, like a good part of Scandinavian-style black metal), at least, they still sound like this to me, but it is undeniable that Maria Arkhipova's band (a voice truly chameleonic) has ambitions that go beyond "simple" black metal. Progressive folk metal, vaguely apocalyptic lyrics which, who knows, perhaps a critic to the motherland is hidden between the lines, a rocky and interesting album of its kind, and Arkona who propose themselves as the only valid alternative that could reach the unforgettable Romanians Negură Bunget.
