Shook - Algiers (2023)

Come vi ho già detto in occasione della recensione del loro concerto di febbraio, stranissima la scelta di andare in tour prima che il disco uscisse, ma (anche) questo sono gli Algiers, band lontana dalla volontà di diventare mainstream. Il quarto disco della band mi pare che segua questa filosofia: ovvero interessa loro relativamente vendere o diventare famosi, quel che perseguono è fare un'opera di sensibilizzazione sociale con la loro musica (contro le ingiustizie ed il razzismo, soprattutto), e la stessa musica è un guazzabuglio sublime e apparentemente confuso, perché riflette quello che dovrebbe essere la cultura moderna. La lista degli ospiti è sterminata, abbondano gli spoken word, come pure le influenze (punk, elettronica, jazz, funk, hip-hop, industrial) ed alcuni pezzi bomba.

As I already told you on the occasion of the review of their February concert, the choice to go on tour before the album came out was very strange, but (also) this is the Algiers, a band far from the desire to become mainstream. The band's fourth album seems to me to follow this philosophy: that is, they are relatively interested in selling or becoming famous, what they pursue is to raise social awareness with their music (against injustices and racism, above all), and the same music is a sublime and seemingly confusing hodgepodge, because it reflects what modern culture should be. The guest list is endless, spoken word abounds, as well as influences (punk, electronic, jazz, funk, hip-hop, industrial) and some bombastic tracks.
