A Reckoning - Kimbra (2023)
Devo ammettere che mi aveva inizialmente preoccupato il suo recente cambio di immagine, sui social (proseguito anche a livello promozionale, nella cooertina del disco e nei video dei singoli), che andava verso una sorta di svolta sexy, e mi aspettavo un disco troppo leggero e troppo pop nel senso peggiore del termine, probabilmente dimenticando il fatto che Kimbra ha sempre, continuamente modificato la sua immagine. E invece, arrivata al quarto lavoro, a cinque anni di distanza dal precedente Primal Heart, la bella neozelandese prosegue con un lavoro di ricerca e di intreccio plurimo di influenze musicali. E' quindi un pop ibrido e perfino raffinato, fatto di elettronica, hip-hop, R&B, completato dalla bella voce di Kimbra, e con una vena a tratti malinconica. Sicuramente non ha preso delle scorciatoie, quindi lodiamo l'impegno.
I must admit that I was initially worried about her recent change of image, on social media (also continued at a promotional level, in the album release and in the videos of the singles), which was heading towards a sort of sexy turnaround, and I was expecting a record that was too light and too pop in the worst sense of the word, probably forgetting the fact that Kimbra has always, continuously modified her image. And instead, having arrived at her fourth work, five years after the previous Primal Heart, the beautiful New Zealander continues with a work of research and a multiple interweaving of musical influences. It is therefore a hybrid and even refined pop, made of electronic, hip-hop, R&B, completed by Kimbra's beautiful voice, and with a melancholic vein at times. She definitely didn't cut corners, so we commend the effort.
