Holocene - The Ocean (2023)
Il nono disco del collettivo tedesco è sicuramente un punto di svolta. E, col senno di poi, scherzando fino ad un certo punto, si poteva intuire fin dalla copertina (in qualche modo, mi ricorda quelle di ATGCLVLSSCAP e Childhood's End). Peter Voigtmann diventa più importante di del fondatore Robin Staps, i synth prendono il posto delle chitarre, seppur non del tutto, e quindi dal post-metal si prova a passare ad essere i nuovi Ulver. Il disco non è perfetto, ma come già sapete, preferisco chi osa a chi si adagia sugli allori.
The ninth disc of the German collective is definitely a turning point. And, in hindsight, joking up to a certain point, it could be guessed right from the cover (somehow, it reminds me of ATGCLVLSSCAP and Childhood's End). Peter Voigtmann becomes more important than the founder Robin Staps, the synths take the place of the guitars, even if not entirely, and therefore from post-metal they try to move on to being the new Ulver. The record is not perfect, but as you already know, I prefer those who dare to those who rest on their laurels.
