Step Into the Light / Failure Will Follow - The Acacia Strain (2023)

Oggi parliamo di ben due dischi, l'undicesimo ed il dodicesimo in studio per la band di Chicopee, Massachusetts, capitanata dall'unico superstite della formazione originale, il cantante Vincent Bennett, uno, pensate un po', straight edge vecchia maniera. Ora, The Acacia Strain sono una band alla quale mi sono avvicinato, purtroppo, solo negli ultimi tre anni, ma posso assicurarvi che sono nel novero delle mie preferite. Questi due dischi, separati da una linea piuttosto netta, il primo quasi grindcore, il secondo quasi sludge, ma il tutto riportato alla radice death/metalcore della band, a sua volta proveniente dal versante punk hardcore, sono impressionanti quando a "potenza di fuoco". Non posso negare che preferisco le tre, lunghissime (totale 38 minuti), ossessive, pesantissime tracce che compongono Failure Will Follow, ma come ignorare le dieci fucilate che compongono i 24 minuti scarsi di Step Into the Light? Una band che ogni volta sembra non avere limiti al miglioramento, due dischi davvero molto belli, pieni di ospiti poco conosciuti, ma molto efficaci.

Today we're talking about two records, the eleventh and twelfth in the studio for the band from Chicopee, Massachusetts, led by the only survivor of the original line-up, the singer Vincent Bennett, a guy, guess what, old-fashioned straight edge. Now, The Acacia Strain are a band that I've unfortunately only gotten close to in the last three years, but I can assure you that they are among my favourites. These two records, separated by a rather clear line, the first almost grindcore, the second almost sludge, but all brought back to the band's death/metalcore roots, which in turn come from the hardcore punk side, are impressive as "firepower ". I can't deny that I prefer the three very long (total 38 minutes), obsessive, very heavy tracks that make up Failure Will Follow, but how can I ignore the ten shots that make up the scarce 24 minutes of Step Into the Light? A band that every time seems to have no limits to improvement, two very beautiful albums, full of little-known guests, but very effective.
