Working With God - Melvins (2021)

Difficile contabilizzare la discografia, ormai sterminata, della seminale band di Montesano, Washington: a seconda di come si considerano The Bootlicker (seconda parte di The Maggot), Pigs of the Roman Empire (Lustmord), Never Breathe What You Can't See e Sieg Howdy! (Jello Biafra), Everybody Loves Sausages (cover), Three Man and a Baby (Mike Kunka), Working With God potrebbe essere il ventunesimo, il ventiquattresimo, oppure il trentesimo disco della "premiata ditta" Osborne/Crover e affiliati. Dal 2015 il bassista ufficiale è Steven Shane McDonald (Redd Kross, Off!), e, perdonatemi se ogni volta che vi parlo di una band di coetanei tendo a sottolinearlo, essendo l'età media della band 54 anni, lo stato di salute musicale della band mi sembra ottimo (considerato che tutti sono ampiamente coinvolti in numerosi altri progetti, neppure troppo "leggeri"). Working With God è il "solito" disco di sludge metal irriverente, creativo, divertente, a tratti geniale, che fa sfigurare molti lavori di band composte di membri che hanno la metà degli anni dei Melvins. Ricordatevi inoltre che non è mai troppo tardi per ascoltarli per la prima volta, nel caso foste così sfortunati da non conoscerli, e per capire rapidamente quante band hanno attinto da questa "sorgente". Per chiudere, lasciatemi dire che dopo Toni Iommi, Roger Buzz Osborne aka King Buzzo, chitarrista, voce e storico fondatore, è probabilmente il creatore di riff più geniale della storia dell'hard rock.

It is difficult to account for the now exterminated discography of the seminal band from Montesano, Washington: depending on how you consider The Bootlicker (second part of The Maggot), Pigs of the Roman Empire (Lustmord), Never Breathe What You Can't See and Sieg Howdy! (Jello Biafra), Everybody Loves Sausages (cover), Three Man and a Baby (Mike Kunka), Working With God could be the twenty-first, twenty-fourth, or thirtieth album of the "award-winning" Osborne/Crover and affiliates. Since 2015 the official bassist is Steven Shane McDonald (Redd Kross, Off!), and, forgive me if every time I talk to you about a band of peers I tend to emphasize, being the average age of the band 54 years, the state of musical health of the band seems excellent to me (considering that everyone is widely involved in numerous other projects, not too "light"). Working With God is the "usual" album of irreverent, creative, funny, at times brilliant sludge metal, which disfigures many works of bands composed of members who are half the age of the Melvins. Also remember that it is never too late to hear them for the first time, in case you are unlucky enough not to know them, and to quickly understand how many bands have drawn from this "source". To close, let me say that after Toni Iommi, Roger Buzz Osborne aka King Buzzo, guitarist, voice and historical founder, is probably the most brilliant riff maker in hard rock history.
