Glory for Salvation - Rapsody of Fire (2021)

Tredicesimo album in studio per la band triestina, attiva dal 1993 sotto il nome di Thundercross, e poi dal 1995 al 2006 sotto il nome di Rhapsody (circa la metà degli album sono stati pubblicati sotto quel nome), anche se per me è il primo approccio. Storia lunga, ovviamente, fatta di cambi di formazione e di scazzi anche con alcune case discografiche, la loro ispirazione viene dalla musica sinfonica, dalle colonne sonore cinematografiche soprattutti di saghe medievali, e da band metal storiche che proponevano heavy metal con venature epiche quali Manowar su tutti. Ora, se in tutti questi anni non li avevo mai ascoltati, c'era un motivo, e, a differenza di qualche altro genere musicale non lontano dal loro, generi sui quali mi sono leggermente ricreduto e che oggi riesco ad ascoltare, con questo, ho un problema: non lo sopporto. Quindi, sappiate che questo mio giudizio è falsato dal mio gusto personale. La tecnica è indiscutibile, e l'obiettivo di creare musica che sia al tempo stesso metal, con una certa epicità, e che faccia pensare a grandi saghe medievali, è senza dubbio raggiunto. Da qui a piacermi, c'è ancora molta strada da fare.

Thirteenth studio album for the Trieste-based (Italy of course) band, active since 1993 under the name of Thundercross, and then from 1995 to 2006 under the name of Rhapsody (about half of the albums were released under that name), although for me it is the first approach. Long history, obviously, made up of line-up changes and fight even with some record companies, their inspiration comes from symphonic music, from film soundtracks above all medieval sagas, and from historical metal bands that offered heavy metal with epic veins such as Manowar over all. Now, if in all these years I had never listened to them, there was a reason, and, unlike some other musical genre not far from theirs, genres on which I have slightly changed my mind and which today I am able to listen, with this, I have a problem: I can't stand it. So, know that my judgment is distorted by my personal taste. The technique is indisputable, and the goal of creating music that is at the same time metal, with a certain epicity, and that suggests great medieval sagas, is undoubtedly achieved. From here to like it, there is still a long way to go.
