Zău - Negură Bunget (2021)

Come per rispondere all'interrogativo con cui concludevo la recensione del precedente Zi, i rimanenti componenti della cult band rumena, sono riusciti finalmente a completare il terzo capitolo della "Trilogia della Transilvania", rimasto incompiuto dopo la morte del membro fondatore Negru. L'album è un tributo a lui, e la band ha utilizzato le sue tracce di batteria rimanenti. Se non avete voglia di andare a rileggervi i racconti precedenti, sappiate che il genere della band rumena è (forse dovremmo usare il futuro, visto che probabilmente questo sarà l'ultimo capitolo) una elegante ed intrigante mescola di black metal, folk, ambient, e musica tradizionale rumena, accompagnata da liriche che inneggiano alla spiritualità pagana e al culto della Terra. L'iniziale Brad, che vede come ospite la voce di Manuela Marchis dei Katharos XIII, ci introduce nel "mondo" spirituale dei Negură Bunget. Purtroppo, il risultato globale non ma pare all'altezza degli altri due "pezzi" della trilogia, ed ho il sospetto che molto dipenda dal fatto che la band ha, appunto, lavorato costruendo sopra delle tracce di batteria già esistenti. L'altro fatto che penalizza molto questo album è la registrazione, ma soprattutto il missaggio: pessimo, a mio modesto parere. Il fascino dell'intreccio tra il folk e il black metal c'è, ma si perde un po' con queste approssimazioni. Peccato.

As if to answer the question with which I concluded the review of the previous Zi, the remaining members of the Romanian cult band finally managed to complete the third chapter of the "Transylvanian Trilogy", which remained unfinished after founding member Negru's death. The album is a tribute to him, and the band used his remaining drum tracks. If you don't feel like reading the previous stories, know that the genre of the Romanian band is (perhaps we should use the past, this will probably be the last chapter) an elegant and intriguing mix of black metal folk, ambient, and traditional Romanian music, accompanied by lyrics that praise pagan spirituality and the cult of the Earth. The initial Brad, who sees the voice of Manuela Marchis from Katharos XIII as a guest, introduces us to the spiritual "world" of Negură Bunget. Unfortunately, the overall result does not seem to match the other two "pieces" of the trilogy, and I suspect that a lot depends on the fact that the band has, in fact, worked by building on existing drum tracks. The other fact that penalizes this album a lot is the recording, but above all the mixing: very bad, in my humble opinion. The charm of the intertwining between folk and black metal is there, but it gets lost a bit with these approximations. It's a real pity.
