A forza di sentirli citare, mi sono deciso ad ascoltare quantomeno l'ultimo album della band svedese, formatasi a Norrköping nel 1990. Molti cambi di formazione, un cambio di direzione dal death al black metal nei primissimi anni, e qualche accusa di affiliazione a gruppi neonazisti, probabilmente dovuti al fatto che nelle loro liriche, oltre che parlare di satanismo, anticristianesimo, blasfemia, morte, dal 1999 in poi (da Panzer Division Marduk) hanno incorporato temi quali storia del Terzo Reich e seconda guerra mondiale. C'è da dire che, essendo il quattordicesimo album in studio, di certo non pare un disco di una band che si è seduta sugli allori, o che abbia perso la spinta. Viktoria è un album selvaggio, veloce, potente, senza compromessi. Un album di black metal che strizza l'occhio al passato, questo si, e all'hardcore punk, che ci segnala una band ancora carica di energia.

By dint of hearing them mention, I decided to listen to at least the last album of the Swedish band, formed in Norrköping in 1990. Many line-up changes, a change of direction from death to black metal in the very first years, and some accusations of affiliation to neo-Nazi groups, probably due to the fact that in their lyrics, in addition to talking about Satanism, anti-Christianity, blasphemy, death, from 1999 onwards (from Panzer Division Marduk) they incorporated themes such as the history of the Third Reich and the Second World War. It must be said that, being the fourteenth studio album, it certainly does not look like a record from a band that has sat on its past, or that has lost the momentum. Viktoria is a wild, fast, powerful, uncompromising album. A black metal album that winks at the past, yes, and at hardcore punk, which signals a band still full of energy.
