Tongues - Tanya Tagaq (2022)

Quinto album per la cantante Inuk, della quale vi ho parlato in occasione del suo disco precedente Retribution, una sorpresa assoluta per me, e come detto in quell'occasione, un viaggio ai confini della sperimentazione musicale e vocale. Per questo nuovo Tongues si fa produrre da due nomi che a me erano sconosciuti fino a poco fa, Saul Williams e Gonjasufi, ma che pare siano "pesi massimi" della produzione, ma anche persone in grado di convogliare e massimizzare la rabbia di quella che è una portavoce di una minoranza. Al contempo, assistiamo alla scelta di ridurre le parti cantate in Katajjaq (canto di gola) a favore di uno spoken word sinuoso ma carico (appunto) di liriche rabbiose che si scagliano verso il Colonizer (unica traccia presente due volte, una delle quali un remix). Le basi musicali, assorbita la "lezione" di Bjork e passata attraverso altre molteplici influenze e suggerimenti, sono fatte da un'elettronica che in alcuni momenti possiamo definire punk senza paura di essere smentiti. Il risultato  un disco impressionante dal punto di vista emozionale.

Fifth album for the singer Inuk, of which I talked about on the occasion of her previous album Retribution, an absolute surprise for me, and as said on that occasion, a journey to the borders of musical and vocal experimentation. This new Tongues is produced by two names that were unknown to me until recently, Saul Williams and Gonjasufi, but who seem to be "heavyweights" of the production, but also people able to convey and maximize the anger of an artist that is a spokesperson for a minority. At the same time, we witness the choice of reducing the parts sung in Katajjaq (throat singing) in favor of a sinuous spoken word that is full (indeed) of angry lyrics that clashes against the Colonizer (the only track present twice, one is a remix). The musical bases, absorbed the "lesson" of Bjork and passed through other multiple influences and suggestions, are made by an electronics that in some moments we can define punk without fear of being proven wrong. The result is an emotionally impressive record.
