In Absentia Dei - Behemoth (2021)

Esce su disco la testimonianza dell'evento live in streaming dello scorso anno. Una roba grandiosa e spettacolare, da quel che ho capito (non l'ho visto, non ne avevo voglia, confesso). Non ho dubbi: Nergal è un tipo che sa come vendere sé stesso e i suoi prodotti, e le infinite polemiche che suscita (non sto parlando di quelle di cui è spesso chiamato a rispondere nei tribunali polacchi, ma di quelle in cui lui e la sua band sono accusati di poseurismo, le potete leggere ovunque in rete, e le ho ascoltate, come vi raccontai, in coda per entrare a vederli prima degli Slipknot, poco prima che il mondo cambiasse per via della pandemia da COVID19), che personalmente non condivido e non comprendo, non fanno altro che aumentarne la visibilità. La scaletta spazia lungo la discografia della band, che è giocoforza sostanziosa, essendo attivi ormai da 30 lunghi anni, e le esecuzioni sono notevoli. Per quanto il blackened metal dei Behemoth sia pure prevedibile, rimane sempre un genere che, affrontato come lo affrontano loro, risulta molto teatrale e perfino cinematografico.

The testimony of last year's live streaming event is released on disc. A great and spectacular stuff, from what I understand (I haven't seen it, I was lazy, I confess). I have no doubts: Nergal is a guy who knows how to sell himself and his products, and the endless controversies he arouses (I'm not talking about those he is often called upon to answer in Polish courts, but those in which he and his bands are accused of poseurism, you can read them anywhere on the net, and I listened to them, as I told you, in the queue to get in to see them before Slipknot, just before the world changed due to the COVID19 pandemic), which I personally do not agree with and I don't understand, they only increase its visibility. The setlist ranges along the discography of the band, which is necessarily substantial, having been active for 30 long years, and the performances are remarkable. As predictable as Behemoth's blackened metal is, it always remains a genre that, faced as they do, is very theatrical and even cinematic.
