Voyeurist - Underoath (2022)

Nono album in studio per la band di Tampa, Florida, secondo dopo la riunione. Un po' il tempo, un po' il fatto che l'unico "superstite" della formazione originale sia Aaron Gillespie (batteria e clean vocals), mi pare di notare una sorta di ammorbidimento nel suono, ma non fraintendetemi: siamo dalle parti degli Architects, tenendo conto che gli Underoath si sono formati molto prima, e che siano una band piuttosto importante nell'ambito del metalcore. Sono sempre stati molto attenti alle parti melodiche e al bilanciamento delle voci, ed il nuovo disco contiene tracce vigorose e godibili, potenti e intriganti. C'è un po' meno hardcore, e un po' più di industrial, ed il disco potrebbe aprire le porte a nuovi fan. Niente male, ma non epico.

Ninth studio album for the band from Tampa, Florida, second after the reunion. Part because of the times, part because of the fact that the only "survivor" of the original lineup is Aaron Gillespie (drums and clean vocals), I seem to notice a sort of softening in the sound, but don't get me wrong: we are near of the Architects, bearing in mind that Underoath formed much earlier, and that they are a pretty important band in the metalcore field. They have always been very attentive to the melodic parts and the balance of the voices, and the new record contains vigorous and enjoyable, powerful and intriguing tracks. There is a little less hardcore, and a little more industrial, and the record could open the door to new fans. Not bad, but not epic.
