Due giorni fa è uscito il diciassettesimo e ultimo (così ha dichiarato il boss Dave Mustaine, 64 anni, un cancro alla gola tra il 2019 e il 2020 e recentemente, la malattia di Dupuytren, ragione per cui ha deciso di concludere l'esperienza della band definitivamente) album dei Megadeth. La notizia non è che è "semplicemente" un disco dei Megadeth, ben suonato, ben scritto, ma con canzoni di un genere che è ormai fuori dal tempo, anche se a me non dispiace (non credo si possa neppure più definire thrash metal, lo chiamerei semplicemente heavy metal), ma che, non si capisce bene per quale motivo, probabilmente tedenze masochistiche, Mustaine, che come molti di voi sapranno detiene i diritti di molte canzoni dei Metallica, pubblicate fino a Master of Puppets, ha deciso di pubblicare come bonus track nientemeno che Ride the Lightning (una versione identica all'originale dei Metallica con la sola differenza che la voce di Mustaine non ce la fa più neppure in studio). Come ho detto agli amici subito dopo aver asoltato l'album e la canzone in questione, la lezione che ne possiamo trarre è che quando si invecchia, si tende a prendere decisioni discutibili.
Two days ago, Megadeth's seventeenth and final album (according to boss Dave Mustaine, 64, who was diagnosed with throat cancer between 2019 and 2020 and recently with Dupuytren's disease, the reason he decided to end the band's career for good) was released. The news isn't that it's "simply" a Megadeth album, well-played and well-written, but with songs from a genre that's now out of date, even though I don't mind that (I don't think you could even call it thrash metal anymore, I'd simply call it heavy metal), but that, for some unclear reason, probably masochistic tendencies, Mustaine, who as many of you know owns the rights to many Metallica songs released up to Master of Puppets, has decided to release as a bonus track none other than "Ride the Lightning" (a version identical to Metallica's original, except Mustaine's voice isn't even up to scratch anymore, even in the studio). As I told friends right after listening to the album and the song in question, the lesson we can learn from it is that as we get older, we tend to make questionable decisions.
