In the Beginning - Cro-Mags (2020)

Prima di parlare del sesto disco (il primo dopo 20 anni esatti dal quinto Revenge) della storica band di NYC, vi do degli aggiornamenti, rivolti soprattutto a me stesso (visto che ignoravo del tutto questa situazione, purtroppo abbastanza comune): nell'aprile 2019, Flanagan (bassista, cantante, leader e unico membro superstite della formazione originale) ha raggiunto un accordo con Joseph e Jayson (cantante e batterista) in cui Flanagan manterrà i diritti esclusivi sul nome Cro-Mags mentre Joseph e Jayson continueranno sotto il nome, Cro-Mags "JM" (i due da anni usavano il nome contro la volontà di Flanagan). Detto questo, superato un po' lo sgomento di trovare situazioni del genere anche in band che, essendo punk-qualcosa, si supporrebbero immuni (evidentemente no), parliamo di questo disco: al netto di tutto quanto (anni di attività, cambi di formazione, diatribe), 38 minuti di prepotenza musicale, l'ormai diventato classico, anche grazie a loro molti anni fa (si formarono nel 1981), crossover tra thrash metal e hardcore punk, molto muscolare ma senza dimenticare una buona tecnica, non freschissimo, ma che ci ricorda la nostra giovinezza. 

Before talking about the sixth album (the first after exactly 20 years from the fifth Revenge) of the historic NYC band, I give you some updates, aimed above all at myself (since I was completely unaware of this situation, unfortunately quite common): in April 2019, Flanagan (bassist, vocalist, leader and sole surviving member of the original lineup) has reached an agreement with Joseph and Jayson (ex singer and ex drummer) in which Flanagan will retain exclusive rights to the Cro-Mags name while Joseph and Jayson will continue under the name, Cro-Mags "JM" (the two had been using the name against Flanagan's wishes for years). Having said that, having overcome a little the dismay of finding such situations even in bands that, being punk-something, would be supposed to be immune (obviously not), let's talk about this record: all things considered (years of activity, line-up changes, controversies), 38 minutes of musical arrogance, the now become classic, also thanks to them many years ago (they formed in 1981), crossover between thrash metal and hardcore punk, very muscular but without forgetting a good technique, not very fresh, but that reminds us of our youth.
