10 Years Gone - Deafheaven (2020)

Album live in studio per i Deafheaven. La decisione, nelle parole del carismatico cantante George Clarke: "All'inizio di quest'anno intendevamo celebrare il decimo anniversario della demo di Deafheaven rilasciata tramite Bandcamp il 1 giugno 2010 con un tour del Nord America con i nostri amici Inter Arma, Greet Death e All Your Sisters. Sfortunatamente, non siamo riusciti a portare a termine quel tour a causa delle ricadute della pandemia COVID-19. Per riprenderci dal colpo finanziario e morale, abbiamo messo insieme un album del set che intendevamo eseguire". Un album che è lo specchio dei tempi, quantomeno dell'anno che tutti quanti abbiamo vissuto: la voglia di essere in un luogo, facendo cose che, per il momento, è meglio non fare, situazioni da non vivere. Ecco quindi che una delle band più innovative degli ultimi 10 anni, prende appunto, la scaletta di quello che doveva essere il loro ultimo tour, e la suona in studio ma come se fosse davanti ad un pubblico, ritoccando le tracce, aggiungendo e sottraendo, chiedendoci di chiudere gli occhi e di immaginarci di essere lì con loro. E' un disco molto bello, brutale ed emozionante, come in effetti sono i Deafheaven dal vivo.

Live in studio album for Deafheaven. The decision, in the words of charismatic singer George Clarke: "Earlier this year we intended on celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Deafheaven demo released through Bandcamp on June 1, 2010 with a tour of North America with our friends Inter Arma, Greet Death and All Your Sisters. Unfortunately, we couldn’t fulfill that tour because of fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic. To rebound from the financial and morale hit, we put together an album of the set we intended to perform.". An album that is the mirror of the times, at least of the year that we have all lived: the desire to be in a place, doing things that, for the moment, it is better not to do, situations not to be experienced. So here is that one of the most innovative bands of the last 10 years, takes indeed the setlist of what was to be their last tour, and plays it in the studio but as if it were in front of an audience, retouching the tracks, adding and subtracting, asking us to close our eyes and imagine being there with them. It is a very beautiful, brutal and exciting record, as Deafheaven actually is live.
