Shabrang - Sevdaliza (2020)

Sevda Alizadeh, in arte Sevdaliza, nasce a Tehran 33 anni fa, ma si trasferisce con la famiglia in Olanda all'età di 5. A 16 anni lascia la casa di famiglia avendo ottenuto una borsa di studio grazie alla sua abilità nel basket: ha giocato nella nazionale olandese di basket femminile. Più tardi si laurea con master in Comunicazione. Parla 5 lingue. Ma la sua passione è la musica.

Primi singoli nel 2014, poi due EP nel 2015. Liriche sempre in inglese fino a quel punto, ma nel 2017 pubblica la canzone Bebin, in farsi, un pezzo contro l'Executive Order 13769. L'album di debutto è proprio del 2017, ISON, nel 2018 un altro EP, The Calling, ed infine, a fine agosto 2020, questo Shabrang. E' un'artista da seguire: la sua musica è intensa, emozionante. La sua voce potente e versatile, profonda. Qualcuno la avvicina al trip-hop dei Portishead (Dormant, Rhode), e ci sta, ma alcune tracce sono così intense, punteggiate dal piano, che non può non venire in mente la grandissima Diamanda Galàs, che effettivamente, Sevda ricorda anche un po' fisicamente. Ci sono tracce più leggere (Oh My God), ma cose come Comet o Habibi sono davvero profonde. C'è, anche qua, una traccia cantata in farsi, Gole Bi Goldoon, una cover di Googoosh, una stagionata celebrità iraniana. Mi raccomando, se cercate musica figa che non sia metal, ricordate dove ne avete letto la prima volta.

Sevda Alizadeh, aka Sevdaliza, was born in Tehran 33 years ago, but moved with her family to the Netherlands at the age of 5. At 16 she left the family home having obtained a scholarship thanks to her basketball skills: she played in the Dutch national basketball team. Later she graduated with a master's degree in Communication. She speak 5 languages. But her passion is music.

First singles in 2014, then two EPs in 2015. Lyrics always in English up to that point, but in 2017 he released the song Bebin, in Farsi, a track against the Executive Order 13769. The debut album is from 2017, ISON, in 2018 another EP, The Calling, and finally, at the end of August 2020, this Shabrang. She is an artist to follow: her music is intense, exciting. Her powerful and versatile voice is deep. Someone approaches her to the trip-hop of Portishead (Dormant, Rhode), and it is there, but some tracks are so intense, punctuated by the piano, that the great Diamanda Galàs cannot but come to mind, Diamanda which actually, Sevda also remembers a bit physically.
