Genesis XIX - Sodom (2020)

Ultimamente mi capita sempre più spesso di essere costretto a riconsiderare molte di quelle che pensavo essere delle certezze. Ad esempio, ignoravo che la band di Gelsenkirchen, Germania, una di quelle che in gioventù aveva scosso le nostre orecchie, e contribuito a plasmare i suoni del black metal che sarebbe venuto più tardi, fosse ancora in attività, e tra l'altro in questo caso preciso, senza mai prendersi pause.  Naturalmente, i Sodom dal 1981 ad oggi hanno visto numerosi cambi di formazione, e l'unico membro superstite originale è rimasto Thomas Such alias Tom Angelripper, basso e voce. La formazione attuale è un quartetto, e vede il ritorno di Frank Blackfire Gosdzik alla chitarra solista, e l'ingresso di due nuovi membri, Yorck Segatz alla chitarra ritmica e Toni Merkel alla batteria. Genesis XIX è dunque il sedicesimo album in studio, contiene una traccia cantata in tedesco, ed è un buon disco di thrash metal con venature black, suonato con buona tecnica ed abbondante aggressività.

Lately it happens more and more often to be forced to reconsider many of what I thought were certainties. For example, I was unaware that the band from Gelsenkirchen, Germany, one of those that shook our ears in their youth, and helped shape the sounds of later black metal, were still in business, and by the way. this precise case, without ever taking breaks. Of course, Sodom from 1981 to the present has seen numerous line-up changes, and the only original surviving member remained Thomas Such aka Tom Angelripper, bass and vocals. The current line-up is a quartet, and sees the return of Frank Blackfire Gosdzik to lead guitar, and the entry of two new members, Yorck Segatz on rhythm guitar and Toni Merkel on drums. Genesis XIX is therefore the sixteenth studio album, contains a track sung in German, and is a good thrash metal album with black veins, played with good technique and abundant aggressiveness.
