Comandante - Tom Morello (2020)

EP di cinque tracce per il "compagno" Tom Morello, dopo il suo "debutto" come solista (o meglio, a suo nome) del 2018 con l'album The Atlas Underground. Uno dei nostri chitarristi preferiti si diverte proprio a suonare, e si sente già dall'apertura, una cover pirotecnica di Voodoo Child (e se non sapete di chi è l'originale, potere smettere di leggere): tutta strumentale, tutta da gustare. Segue l'unica traccia cantata (dallo stesso Morello, che non se la cava affatto male), dove "duella" con Slash, Interstate 80, molto Audioslave. A ruota Secretariat, un minuto e otto secondi di omaggio a Eddie Van Halen che fanno venire la pelle d'oca (sembrerebbe live), e Suburban Guerrilla in classico stile RATM. Chiude Cato Stedman & Neptune Frost, una ballatona blues da brividi, con il riverbero sparato al massimo e, in pratica, un assolo lungo quattro minuti, semplice ma suonato a cuore aperto. So che farete fatica a crederci, ma questi appena diciotto minuti di musica sono tra quanto di meglio si sia ascoltato quest'anno. Lunga vita a Tom. 

Five-track EP for "comrade" Tom Morello, after his "debut" as a soloist (or rather, in his name) in 2018 with the album The Atlas Underground. One of our favorite guitarists really enjoys playing, and already from the opening, you can hear a pyrotechnic cover of Voodoo Child (and if you don't know who the original is, you can stop reading): all instrumental, all to be enjoyed. Follows the only track sung (by Morello himself, who is not doing badly at all), where he "duels" with Slash, Interstate 80, very Audioslave. Following Secretariat, a minute and eight seconds of homage to Eddie Van Halen that give goosebumps (it would seem live), and Suburban Guerrilla in classic RATM style. Closes Cato Stedman & Neptune Frost, a thrilling blues ballad, with the reverb fired to the maximum and, in practice, a four-minute long solo, simple but played with an open heart. I know you will have a hard time believing it, but these just eighteen minutes of music are some of the best we've heard this year. Long live Tom.
