Purge - Godflesh (2023)

Nono album per la band inglese, terzo da quando si sono riformati, Purge, a detta della stessa band "rivisita e aggiorna i concetti esplorati su Pure, l'album del 1992. Il titolo Purge si riferisce al modo in cui il frontman Justin Broadrick utilizza la musica dei Godflesh come sollievo temporaneo dal suo autismo e dal disturbo da stress post-traumatico. La domanda, molto semplice, da farsi, è: "c'è ancora bisogno dei Godflesh?". La risposta è si, non fosse altro che per capire quante band ne sono state influenzate. Perché, a volte, si usa l'etichetta industrial metal come riferimento, ma se non ci fossero stati loro, non lo faremmo.

Ninth album for the English band, third since their reformation, Purge, according to the band themselves "revisits and updates the concepts explored on Pure, the group's 1992 album. The title Purge refers to how frontman Justin Broadrick utilises Godflesh's music as a temporary relief from his diagnosed autism and PTSD". The very simple question to ask is, "Does Godflesh still need to be?". The answer is yes, if only for nothing else, to understand how many bands have been influenced by them. Because, sometimes, the industrial metal label is used as a reference, but if it hadn't been for them, we wouldn't be doing it.
