The Warren - Bolt Gun / Iggor Cavalera (2023)

Ci eravamo già occupati della band australiana in occasione della recensione (in ritardo) del loro Begotten. E siccome, come ebbi a dire in quella occasione, la loro musica è davvero sfidante, in un momento di penuria di uscite (quantomeno interessanti), voglio parlarvi brevemente di questo EP (due sole tracce) collaborativo, insieme a Igor Cavalera (continuo a non capire perché adesso tutti scrivono Iggor con due g), famosissimo ex batterista e fondatore dei Sepultura, che però, come sa bene chi segue l'underground, negli ultimi anni si è dato anche da fare sul versante della musica sperimentale. Il disco esce per l'etichetta italiana Avantgarde, e a livello di liriche è ispirato all'omonimo racconto di Brian Evenson, un incubo surrealista di claustrofobia e annientamento. Musicalmente, è un breve viaggio nel lato oscuro della musica.

We had already dealt with the Australian band during the (delayed) review of their Begotten. And since, as I said on that occasion, their music is really challenging, in a moment of shortage of (at least interesting) releases, I want to tell you briefly about this collaborative EP (only two tracks), together with Igor Cavalera (I continue to don't understand why now everyone writes Iggor with two g), very famous former drummer and founder of Sepultura, who however, as anyone who follows the underground knows, has also been busy in recent years on the experimental music side. The disc comes out on the Italian label Avantgarde, and lyrically it is inspired by the homonymous story by Brian Evenson, a surrealist nightmare of claustrophobia and annihilation. Musically, it's a short trip to the dark side of music.
