My Soft Machine - Arlo Parks (2023)
Qualche giorno prima di ascoltare il "difficile secondo disco" di Anaïs Oluwatoyin Estelle Marinho aka Arlo Parks, della quale mi era piaciuto moltissimo il debutto, ho letto un breve commento sullo stesso disco da parte di un recensore con il quale non mi trovo mai d'accordo, ed ho quindi pensato che mi sarebbe piaciuto molto anche questo. E invece, mi tocca quasi dare ragione a lui. C'è sempre un buon lavoro, il disco è fatto da un indie pop misto ad RNB e ad altre cosette interessanti, tutto di un buon livello, cantato da una voce sempre intrigante, ma è sicuramente sotto al debutto. Il duetto con Phoebe Bridgers, Pegasus, ha una marcia in più. Manca urgenza, manca genio. Urge recuperarlo.
A few days before listening to the "difficult second album" by Anaïs Oluwatoyin Estelle Marinho aka Arlo Parks, whose debut I really enjoyed, I read a brief comment on the same album by a reviewer with whom I never agreed, so I thought I'd really like this (record) too. And instead, I almost have to agree with him. There's always a good job, the record is made up of indie pop mixed with RNB and other interesting little things, all of a good level, sung by an always intriguing voice, but it's definitely below the debut. The duet with Phoebe Bridgers, Pegasus, has something extra. There is no urgency, there is no genius. It needs to be recovered.
