My Back Was a Bridge for You to Cross - Anohni and the Johnsons (2023)
Questo può essere considerato il quinto disco del progetto, rinominato dopo il cambio di nome da Antony ad Anohni, e svela pure una ispirazione della quale non ero a conoscenza: la foto di copertina raffigura Marsha P. Johnson, attivista statunitense per i diritti gay, drag queen, importante presenza nei moti di Stonewall, alla quale Anohni si è ispirata per il nome della sua band. Ma il disco com'è? Molto bello. NME lo ha definito "il più accessibile", e mi trova d'accordo. C'è moltissimo soul, la voce di Anohni è sempre più bella, le liriche proseguono sulla falsariga di Hopelessness, e quando lo ascolterete, capirete quanto vi sia mancata questa voce e questo modo di scrivere canzoni.
This can be considered the fifth album of the project, renamed after the name change from Antony to Anohni, and it also reveals an inspiration I wasn't aware of: the cover photo depicts Marsha P. Johnson, US activist for gay rights, drag queen, an important presence in the Stonewall riots, which Anohni was inspired by for the name of her band. But how is the disc? Very nice. NME called it "the most accessible", and I agree. There is a lot of soul, Anohni's voice is always more beautiful, the lyrics continue along the lines of Hopelessness, and when you listen to it, you will understand how much you have missed this voice and this way of writing songs.
