Cool It Down - Yeah Yeah Yeahs (2022)
Rileggendo velocemente i miei giudizi sui loro dischi precedenti, mi fa piacere avere "indovinato" il fatto che il precedente Mosquito, del 2013, denotava un po' di stanchezza. Si sono presi una pausa lunga nove anni, ovviamente hanno fatto altre cose, sperimentato, riflettuto. Karen O (voce, piano), Nick Zinner (chitarra, tastiere) e Brian Chase (batteria) tornano insieme, e riprendono da dove avevano interrotto: Cool It Down, otto tracce per poco più di 32 minuti, è un bel disco di pop moderno, intriso di radici garage rock e punk, ma carico di elettronica "calda", di liriche empatiche e di suoni che sono tutto fuorché freddi. La capacità compositiva è intatta, anche se qua e là si riconoscono quelli che si potrebbero definire autoplagi, ma la maestria è intatta.
Quickly rereading my judgments on their previous records, I'm glad to have "guessed" that the previous Mosquito (2013) denoted a bit of fatigue. They took a nine-year break, obviously they did other things, experimented, reflected. Karen O (vocals, piano), Nick Zinner (guitar, keyboards) and Brian Chase (drums) get back together, and pick up where they left off: Cool It Down, eight tracks for just over 32 minutes, is a nice modern pop record, steeped in garage rock and punk roots, but loaded with "hot" electronics, empathic lyrics and sounds that are anything but cold. The compositional ability is intact, even if here and there we recognize what could be defined as self-plagiarism, but the mastery is intact.
