Foregone - In Flames (2023)

Il quattordicesimo album in studio della band svedese, segna l'ingresso in formazione del chitarrista ritmico Chris Broderick, peraltro già con loro in tour dal 2019, portando quindi a 3 su 5 gli statunitensi nella formazione stessa. Ma, tralasciando le amenità, andiamo velocemente al succo della questione: che cosa si chiede ad un disco degli In Flames? E' piuttosto ovvio che la risposta cambierà a seconda di chi è chiamato a rispondere. La mia è "esattamente questo". Un disco potente, ben bilanciato, dove il death metal è talmente melodico da sconfinare nell'alternative metal, per una band che, dopo 33 anni, può tranquillamente fare quel che vuole, e che magari non va idolatrata, ma che soddisfa le orecchie di un metallaro medio (come me) al giorno d'oggi.

But, leaving aside the amenities, let's quickly get to the heart of the matter: what do you ask of an In Flames album? It is quite obvious that the answer will change depending on who is called to answer. Mine is "exactly that". A powerful, well-balanced record, where death metal is so melodic that it borders on alternative metal, for a band that, after 33 years, can easily do whatever it wants, and that maybe shouldn't be idolized, but that satisfies the ears of an average metalhead (like me) nowadays.
