Grande coraggioso

Big Brave + Aicher + Long Gone, 30 aprile 2023, Circolo DEV, Bologna

Finalmente riesco a vedere il famigerato Circolo DEV, due stanze grandi in centro a Bologna in una traversa di via Irnerio. Quando arrivo, la band sta mangiando una pizza nei cartoni, giusto fuori dal locale, dove si sentono dei suoni, probabilmente il soundcheck della band italiana che aprirà stasera. Atmosfera molto rilassata ed amichevole, aprono appunto i milanesi Long Gone, band che si capisce provenire dal punk hardcore ma adesso rilassata verso uno slowcore apprezzabile, ma abbastanza prevedibile. Dopo di loro è la volta di Aicher, progetto solista di Liam Andrews, bassista e cantante degli australiani My Disco, una roba molto elettronica e di un certo effetto, ma a mio parere, non imprescindibile. La scelta è frutto, in piccolo, di un trend che adesso va molto per la maggiore, per risparmiare ed ammortizzare i costi dei tour: lo stesso bassista fa da musicista aggiunto ai Big Brave, che quindi stasera si presentano con una formazione che potremmo definire "classica", basso, due chitarre (una suonata dalla cantante, con la voce tremendamente simile a quella di Anna von Hausswolff, Robin Wattie) e batteria. Ero molto curioso di vederli all'opera, e non ne sono rimasto deluso: l'impatto è quello di una sorta di Melvins con tocchi noise anche piuttosto marcati, un muro del suono imponente. La scaletta è presto descritta: quella dell'ultimo Nature Morte, snocciolato esattamente nella stessa cronologia. Finiscono ringraziando i presenti e i gestori per averli "viziati". Io rientro in albergo riflettendo sulla differenza che passa tra chi a quasi 60 anni va a vedere i concerti da 40 persone, e chi a 40 anni va a vedere quelli di pensionati famosi che riempiono gli stadi.

Finally I can see the notorious Circolo DEV, two large rooms in the center of Bologna in a side street of via Irnerio. When I arrive, the band is eating pizza to go, right outside the club, where sounds are heard, probably the soundcheck of the Italian band that will open tonight. Very relaxed and friendly atmosphere, the openers are Long Gone from Milan, a band that can be understood as coming from hardcore punk but now relaxed towards an appreciable, but quite predictable slowcore. After them it's the turn of Aicher, a solo project by Liam Andrews, bassist and singer of the Australian My Disco, a very electronic stuff with a certain effect, but in my opinion, not essential. The choice is the result, in a small way, of a trend that is now very popular, to save money and amortize the costs of the tours: the same bassist acts as an added musician to the Big Brave, which therefore tonight present themselves with a line up that we could define "classic", bass, two guitars (one played by the singer, with a voice tremendously similar to that of Anna von Hausswolff, Robin Wattie) and drums. I was very curious to see them at work, and I wasn't disappointed: the impact is that of a sort of Melvins with even rather marked noise touches, an imposing wall of sound. The set list is easily described: that of the last Nature Morte, performed in exactly the same chronology. They end by thanking those present and the managers for having "spoiled" them. I go back to the hotel reflecting on the difference between those who are almost 60 years old go to see concerts for 40 people, and those of 40 years old go see famous retirees who fill stadiums.
