Djinn - Uada (2020)

Terzo album per la band di Portland, Oregon, una band che, leggendo in rete, sembra dividere moltissimo la critica e i cosiddetti addetti ai lavori. C'è chi li ama e chi li odia, chi inserisce nelle recensioni episodi che narrano di plagi, di faide, rivalità, chi li accusa di essersi resi commerciali (accusa che, a uno come me che ascolta black e death metal, ma che non si considera parte integrante e fan assoluto del genere, suona davvero ridicola, ma, come vi ho già raccontato, è piuttosto in uso). Siamo di fronte ad una band che è tecnicamente ottima, e che sicuramente non lavora in maniera del tutto spontanea, ma costruisce molto. Si intuisce che le radici partono dall'hardcore punk oltre che dal metal, e che stanno seguendo un percorso che vorrebbe ampliare il loro bacino d'ascolto. Troviamo, in questo disco, ripetendo in parte il discorso precedente, l'assalto hc punk, il black metal che però tende ad abbracciare la melodia, seppur selvaggia, ed un certo sguardo ammirato verso la NWOBHM. Sicuramente, le succitate influenze possono essere amalgamate meglio.

Third album for the band from Portland, Oregon, a band that, reading on the internet, seems to divide the critics and the so-called insiders very much. There are those who love them and those who hate them, those who insert episodes in the reviews that tell about plagiarism, feuds, rivalries, those who accuse them of having become commercial (accuses that, to someone like me who listens to black and death metal, but that he does not consider himself an integral part and absolute fan of the genre, it sounds really ridiculous, but, as I have already told you, it is quite in use). We are facing a band that is technically excellent, and that certainly does not work in a completely spontaneous way, but builds a lot. It is understood that the roots start from hardcore punk as well as from metal, and that they are following a path that would like to expand their audience. We find, in this record, repeating in part the previous speech, the hc punk assault, the black metal which however tends to embrace the melody, albeit wild, and a certain admired look towards the NWOBHM. Surely, the aforementioned influences can be better blended.
