La serie-documentario ruota attorno alla carriera di Michael Jordan, con particolare attenzione alla sua ultima stagione con i Chicago Bulls (1997/1998). La serie presenta filmati esclusivi di una troupe cinematografica che aveva un pass per l'accesso completo ai Bulls, oltre a interviste a molte personalità NBA tra cui Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, Steve Kerr, Phil Jackson, ma pure giornalisti sportivi e amici.
Inutile girarci intorno, nonostante le critiche, che vedremo fra poco, questa docu-serie è stata uno degli eventi della stagione televisiva. The Last Dance (riferimento all'ultima stagione, appunto, giocata da uno degli atleti più grandi di tutti i tempi, con la squadra che gli ha dato notorietà planetaria) è ovviamente di parte (tutta "a favore" di Jordan), e, tecnicamente, il montaggio che va avanti e indietro nel tempo (alternando il percorso della stagione 97/98 alla storia personale di Jordan, dei precedenti campionati, del suo primo ritiro) non aiuta moltissimo ad avere una visione lineare; eppure, il personaggio MJ è degno di una celebrazione del genere, e la visione può interessare anche a chi non è stato fan, e addirittura a chi non si interessa di basket. Nata come una serie unica, potrebbe addirittura avere un seguito.
No discussions, despite the criticisms, which we will see shortly, this docu-series was one of the events of the television season. The Last Dance (referring to the last season, in fact, played by one of the greatest athletes of all time, with the team that gave him global fame) is obviously biased (all "in favor" of Jordan), and, technically, the editing that goes back and forth in time (alternating the path of the 97/98 season with the personal history of Jordan, of the previous championships, of his first retirement) does not help very much to have a linear vision; yet, the character MJ is worthy of such a celebration, and the vision may appeal to even who have not been fans, and even those who are not interested in basketball. Born as a unique series, it may even have a sequel.
