Unison / Aurora - Ison (2019) / (2021)

Parliamo adesso degli ultimi due album degli Ison, ex duo svedese formato, fino al 2019, da Daniel Änghede e Heike Langhans, e dopo l'abbandono di quest'ultima, divenuto un progetto solista. Entrambi vengono da esperienze post-rock o metal, ma questo progetto è decisamente ambient, e può ricordare gli ultimi Ulver. Se Unison, secondo album, conserva in parte velleità pop, Änghede, evidentemente costretto a ripensare l'intera struttura dato l'abbandono della vocalist, spinge sul lato ambient, e ricerca collaborazioni varie, quasi tutte femminili: Vila, Cammie, Lisa Cuthbert, Sylvaine, Gogo Melone, Carline Van Roos, Tara Van Flower. Non vuol dire che Aurora sia meno accessibile, il risultato è più concettualmente shoegaze, meditativo, evocativo, e, in definitiva, a mio giudizio migliore.

Let's talk now about the last two albums of Ison, a former Swedish duo formed, until 2019, by Daniel Änghede and Heike Langhans, and after the abandonment of the latter, which became a solo project. Both come from post-rock or metal backgrounds, but this project is definitely ambient, and can be reminiscent of the latest Ulver. If Unison, their second album, partly retains pop ambitions, Änghede, evidently forced to rethink the entire structure given the abandonment of the vocalist, pushes on the ambient side, and seeks various collaborations, almost all female: Vila, Cammie, Lisa Cuthbert, Sylvaine, Gogo Melone, Carline Van Roos, Tara Van Flower. It doesn't mean that Aurora is less accessible, the result is more conceptually shoegaze, meditative, evocative, and ultimately better, in my judgment.
