What Normal Was - Billy Howerdel (2022)

Billy Howerdel, classe 1970, nato nel New Jersey, ingegnere del suono, poi tecnico della chitarra, tra gli altri per i Tool. Durante le registrazioni di Aenima fa ascoltare alcune sue composizioni a MJ Keenan, che gli dice pressappoco "se mai formerai una band, chiamami per cantarle". E così nacquero gli A Perfect Circle, uno dei progetti di Billy insieme agli Ashes Divide. Qua invece siamo di fronte al suo debutto solista, un disco di grande atmosfera, dove l'elettronica è più in rilievo della chitarra, e che, nonostante vengano citati nomi quali Cure, Pink Floyd e Echo and the Bunnymen, a me ha ricordato moltissimo i migliori Depeche Mode. Niente male.

Billy Howerdel, class of 1970, born in New Jersey, sound engineer, then guitar technician, among others for Tool. During the recordings of Aenima he plays some of his compositions to MJ Keenan, who tells him (give or take) "if you ever form a band, call me to sing them". And so A Perfect Circle was born, one of Billy's projects together with Ashes Divide. Here instead we are faced with his solo debut, a record with a great atmosphere, where electronics are more prominent than the guitar, and which, despite being mentioned names such as Cure, Pink Floyd and Echo and the Bunnymen, reminded me very much the best Depeche Mode. Not bad.
