Arkhon - Zola Jesus (2022)
Come vi ho detto più e più volte, al punto che mi vengo a noia da solo, spesso mi capita di "confrontarmi" con la recensione di Pitchfork, mentre mi avvio a scrivere la mia su un disco, ritenendo Pitchfork uno dei punti di riferimento più equilibrati nel campo musicale. E devo dire che, anche questa volta, mi trovo non solo completamente d'accordo con Shaad D'Souza, ma in più punti (il primo paragrafo, dove spiega in maniera breve ma chiarissima la filosofia che sta dietro l'approccio musicale di Zola Jesus, o quando racconta le clamorose citazioni presenti su Undertow e Into the Wild) ho provato una sana invidia, per come e per quello che aveva scritto. Probabilmente sarei più generoso, se dovessi dare un voto da 1 a 10, perché comunque mi piace premiare chi osa e chi lavora ad un'idea di sperimentalismo funzionale alla fruizione e alla bellezza della musica, di qualsiasi genere essa sia, ma concordo che non sia l'apice per Nina Roza Danilova, un'artista che comunque resta tra le mie preferite, anche per la sua simpatia (a dispetto del suo "amore" per i toni scuri in musica).
As I have told you over and over again, to the point that I get bored by myself, I often "confront" myself with the Pitchfork review, while I start to write mine on a record, considering Pitchfork one of the reference points more balanced in the musical field. And I must say that, once again, I find myself not only completely in agreement with Shaad D'Souza, but in several points (the first paragraph, where he explains in a short but very clear way the philosophy behind Zola Jesus' musical approach, or when he tells the sensational quotes present on Undertow and Into the Wild) I felt a healthy envy, for how and for what he had written. I would probably be more generous, if I had to give a vote from 1 to 10, because in any case I like to reward those who dare and those who work on an idea of experimentalism functional to the enjoyment and beauty of music, of any kind, but I agree that not is the apex for Nina Roza Danilova, an artist who still remains among my favorites, also for her sympathy (despite her "love" for the dark tones).
