Death by Rock and Roll - The Pretty Reckless (2021)

Passati sette anni da Going to Hell, e tenendo conto che non credo di aver mai ascoltato Who You Selling For, che stava in mezzo essendo del 2016, alla luce degli ascolti di questo nuovo Death by Rock and Roll, gli unici cambiamenti rilevanti nella musica dei Pretty Reckless sono quelli dovuti alle amicizie di Taylor Momsen (leader, cantante, chitarra ritmica, co-compositrice). Infatti, le tracce che hanno maggiore personalità, su questo disco, sono esattamente la 2, Only Love Can Save Me Now, con le apparizioni di Matt Cameron e Kim Tahyil (Taylor è stata una delle molte partecipanti all'omaggio a Chris Cornell live, di qualche tempo fa; la traccia in questione è molto Soundgarden), e la 3, And So It Went, con la partecipazione di Tom Morello. Il resto è un imbarazzante accozzaglia di stili e plagi più o meno evidenti (mi permetto di segnalare My Bones, che dal minuto 2:30 diventa Call Me dei Blondie, su tutte), suonati professionalmente. Peccato, perché la voce di Taylor potrebbe essere impiegata per cose più rilevanti.

In fact, the tracks that have the most personality on this record are exactly the number 2, Only Love Can Save Me Now, with the appearances of Matt Cameron and Kim Tahyil (Taylor was one of many participants in the Chris Cornell homage live, some time ago; the track in question is very Soundgarden), and the number 3, And So It Went, with the participation of Tom Morello. The rest is an embarrassing jumble of styles and more or less evident plagiarisms (I would like to point out My Bones, which from 2:30 becomes Call Me by Blondie, above all the others), played professionally. Too bad, because Taylor's voice could be used for more relevant things.
