Detroit Stories - Alice Cooper (2021)

Ventunesimo disco (ventottesimo in generale, considerando anche altri progetti) per una vera icona non solo del rock, ma della musica in generale, personaggio a mio parere troppo spesso messo da parte quando si pensa ai musicisti che hanno influenzato le epoche a venire. Ha compiuto da qualche settimana 73 anni, e tempo fa dichiarò che se Mick Jagger fa ancora concerti, considerando che è più anziano di lui di qualche anno, Alice certo non ha intenzione di lasciargli lo scettro, e di durare ancora: glielo auguro di cuore. Il disco potrebbe sorprendere gli impreparati, per la versatilità che presenta, ma così non è, Alice Cooper non è un musicista qualunque. La base è sempre l'hard rock, ci sono alcune cover (Rock and Roll dei Velvet Underground, Our Love Will Change the World degli Outrageous Cherry, Sister Anne dei concittadini MC5 - del resto, in un disco intitolato a Detroit, non potevano mancare -, e East Side Story di Bob Seger & The Last Heard), il disco è piacevole e naturalmente ben scritto e suonato, e come detto, impressionante per versatilità e dinamismo.

Twenty-first album (twenty-eighth in general, also considering other projects) for a true icon not only of rock, but of music in general, a character in my opinion too often put aside when one thinks of the musicians who have influenced the eras to come. He has been 73 years old a few weeks ago, and some time ago he declared that if Mick Jagger still plays concerts, considering that he is a few years older than him, Alice certainly has no intention of leaving him the scepter, and to last longer: I wish him so from my heart. The album might surprise the unprepared, for the versatility it presents, but it is not, Alice Cooper is not just any musician. The base is always hard rock, there are some covers (Rock and Roll by Velvet Underground, Our Love Will Change the World by Outrageous Cherry, Sister Anne by fellow citizens MC5 - after all, in a record titled in Detroit, they could not miss -, and East Side Story by Bob Seger & The Last Heard), the record is enjoyable and naturally well written and played, and as mentioned, impressive for its versatility and dynamism.
