Blu eterno

Eternal Blue - Spiritbox (2021)

After an infinite number of singles and a couple of EPs, here is the debut album of the Canadians Spiritbox, band led by the couple (married) Courtney LaPlante (vocals) and Mike Stringer (guitar), now assisted by Bill Crook on bass and Zev Rose on drums. It is a record that is mainly based on metalcore, but that ranges a lot, sometimes resulting too heterogeneous: obviously, time will tell if this particularity will be a strength or a weakness of the band. From what I understand, the band leans towards the first point, and is working on this. Extremely flexible voice, that of LaPlante, capable of very beautiful melodies and furious growls, the band mentions Kate Bush, Deftones and Tesseract in equal measure among their influences, and this is reflected in their cauldron that mixes metalcore, djent, progressive, alternatives, and why not, a certain amount of pop propensity. The result is obviously a pleasantly listenable record, if you don't mind a certain amount of growling, with airy melodies that alternate with dangling rhythmic djents.
