Horizons/Est - Thrice (2021)

Potrei raccontarvi una storia buffa, ma in realtà l'ho già fatto qui, quindi mi limiterò semplicemente a dirvi che l'ascolto di questo Horizons / East è in assoluto il mio primo "incontro" con la band di Irvine, California, nonostante la loro formazione risalga al 1998, e questo sia il loro disco numero undici. Una band che si è formata quando i componenti erano ancora al liceo, che si è presa uno iato dal 2012 al 2015, e che ancora oggi vede la stessa formazione del 1998, Dustin Kensrue voce, percussioni e chitarra ritmica, Teppei Teranishi chitarra solista, tastiere e cori, Eddie Breckenridge basso, synth e cori,  a volte chitarra, Riley Breckenridge batteria e percussioni. La band è passata dall'iniziale post hardcore, attraverso variazioni, sfumature, costruzione di uno stile personale e particolare, che oggi mette insieme alt rock, ricordi di hardcore punk, ed il post di tutto quello che è stato l'hard rock. Il risultato, almeno da questo album, è intrigante, melodico al punto giusto, mai stucchevole, con un retrogusto piacevole ed il sapiente uso di tutta una serie di influenze amalgamate fino ad estrarre uno stile molto personale. Dieci tracce per quasi 43 minuti di musica, alcune estremamente belle.

I could tell you a funny story, but I've actually done it here before, so I'll just tell you that listening to this Horizons / East is my very first "encounter" with the band from Irvine, California, despite the their lineup dates back to 1998, and this is their number eleven record. A band that formed when the members were still in high school, which took a hiatus from 2012 to 2015, and which still today sees the same formation as in 1998, Dustin Kensrue vocals, percussion and rhythm guitar, Teppei Teranishi lead guitar, keyboards and backing vocals, Eddie Breckenridge bass, synths and backing vocals, sometimes guitar, Riley Breckenridge drums and percussion. The band has gone from the initial post hardcore, through variations, shades, construction of a personal and particular style, which today brings together alt rock, memories of hardcore punk, and the post of everything that was hard rock. The result, at least from this album, is intriguing, melodic at the right point, never cloying, with a pleasant aftertaste and the wise use of a whole series of influences amalgamated to extract a very personal style. Ten tracks for almost 43 minutes of music, some extremely beautiful.
