Star-Crossed - Kacey Musgraves (2021)

Come dice Entertainment Weekly, il disco nuovo di Kacey Musgraves, ampiamente pubblicizzato da lei stessa come basato tutto sull'onda del suo recente divorzio, va, a livello di liriche, alla radice della musica country: l'amore fa male, la vita è dura. Ma, se si eccettua una discutibilissima cover di Gracias a la vida, posta in chiusura, le altre 14 tracce di questo nuovo disco di una delle star più brillanti del country pop statunitense, sono piuttosto deludenti. Un pop folk malinconico, spesso appiattito da basi elettroniche, ma senza quel songwriting esaltante che mi sarei aspettato da un cuore gravemente ferito.

As Entertainment Weekly says, Kacey Musgraves' new record, widely advertised by herself as being based all on the wave of her recent divorce, goes, lyrically, to the root of country music: love hurts, life is hard. But, with the exception of a very questionable cover of Gracias a la vida, placed at the end, the other 14 tracks of this new album by one of the brightest stars of American country pop, are rather disappointing. A melancholy pop folk, often flattened by electronic backing, but without that exciting songwriting I would have expected from a badly wounded heart.
