Senjutsu - Iron Maiden (2021)

A distanza di sei anni dal discreto The Book of Souls, arriva il diciassettesimo album in studio per i Maiden, dal titolo e dalla grafica di ispirazione giapponese. Siamo ancora ampiamente sopra la sufficienza, anche se in totale, il disco mi è piaciuto meno dei precedenti. La sensazione di malessere che mi assale quando Bruce Dickinson va sulle note alte si è amplificata, e spesso fa passare in secondo piano il buonissimo lavoro del reso della band, che, non dimentichiamolo, è fatto da ottimi musicisti (qualcuno più che ottimo, visto il segno che ha lasciato nella storia del metal). Disco molto lungo (doppio), dieci tracce robuste per un'ora e ventun minuti di suono classico Iron, impreziosito (o ammorbidito, secondo i punti di vista) in alcuni momenti dalle tastiere, ma nessun picco da ricordare.

Six years after the discreet The Book of Souls, the seventeenth studio album for Maiden arrives, with a Japanese-inspired title and graphics. We are still well above sufficiency, even if in total, I liked the record less than the previous ones. The feeling of malaise that assails me when Bruce Dickinson goes on the high notes is amplified, and often overshadows the very good work of the rest of the band, which, let's not forget, is done by excellent musicians (someone more than excellent, given the mark he left in the history of metal). Very long (double) record, ten robust tracks for an hour and twenty-one minutes of classic Iron sound, embellished (or softened, depending on your point of view) in a few moments by the keyboards, but no peak to remember.
