Con il quinto disco, la band che in origine nacque a San Francisco, California, spiazza tutti, come le grandi band (e sono fermamente convinto che i Deafheaven lo siano), e si mette praticamente dietro le spalle quasi completamente il growling da indemoniato di George Clarke e le influenze black metal, per lasciare spazio a quelle che arrivano direttamente dalla new wave, passando per lo shoegaze. Fregandosene di quanti fan perderanno, assumendo un atteggiamento alla do-or-die, molto semplicemente, questi ragazzi che già avevano dimostrato di saper scrivere canzoni meravigliose seppur dalla potenza devastante, pubblicano probabilmente il miglior disco del 2021. Nove tracce, 53 minuti, un disco bellissimo. Non ci sono discussioni ulteriori.

With the fifth album, the band that originally was born in San Francisco, California, displaces everyone, like the big bands (and I firmly believe that Deafheaven are), and practically puts the George Clarke's demon-possessed growling behind their backs almost completely, and their black metal influences, to leave room for those that come directly from the new wave, passing through the shoegaze. Not caring how many fans they will lose, assuming a do-or-die attitude, quite simply, these guys who had already demonstrated that they can write wonderful songs albeit with devastating power, they release probably the best album of 2021. Nine tracks, 53 minutes, an absolutely beautiful record. There are no further discussions.
