Infernum in Terra - A Pale Horse Named Death (2021)

Gli A Pale Horse Named Death, dei quali ignoravo l'esistenza fino a poche settimane fa (quando ho letto il loro simpatico nome sulla lista delle uscite di settembre 2021), sono una band statunitense di Brooklyn, New York, formata nel 2010 dall'ottimo Sal Abruscato, già batterista dei mitici Tipe O Negative, susseguentemente dei Life of Agony. Passato alla chitarra e voce per questa band, eccolo qui, per questo quarto album, insieme a Chris Hamilton (batteria), Eric Morgan (basso), Eddie Heedles e Joe Taylor alle altre due chitarre, questa l'ultima formazione degli APHND, per un doom metal che è debitore in egual misura ai Black Sabbath ed al grunge più vicino al metal, in particolare agli Alice In Chains, una somiglianza che a tratti diviene inquietante. Fatte le dovute premesse, il disco in questione, undici tracce per quasi 55 minuti di musica, è molto buono, i ritmi come potrete immaginare, molto rallentati, le chitarre fondamentali, i riff prevedibili ma le melodie intriganti, gli assoli di chitarra eleganti, insomma, un buon passatempo per noi amanti di tutte le influenze che ho citato in questa specie di recensione.

A Pale Horse Named Death, whose existence I was unaware of until a few weeks ago (when I read their cute name on the September 2021 release list), are an American band from Brooklyn, New York, formed in 2010 by the excellent Sal Abruscato, former drummer of the legendary Tipe O Negative, subsequently of Life of Agony. Switched to guitar and vocals for this band, here he is, for this fourth album, together with Chris Hamilton (drums), Eric Morgan (bass), Eddie Heedles and Joe Taylor on the other two guitars, this is the latest lineup of APHND, for a doom metal which is equally indebted to Black Sabbath and to grunge closer to metal, in particular to Alice In Chains, a resemblance that at times becomes disturbing. Having made the necessary premises, the disc in question, eleven tracks for almost 55 minutes of music, is very good, the rhythms as you can imagine, very slowed down, the fundamental guitars, the predictable riffs but the intriguing melodies, the elegant guitar solos, in short, a good pastime for us lovers of all the influences that I mentioned in this sort of review.
