Solar Power - Lorde (2021)

Chiariamo una cosa: Lorde è bravissima, talentuosa, e il disco precedente mi piacque tantissimo, tanto da finire sul podio nella mia personalissima Top10 del 2017. Ed era talmente bello, fresco, sorprendente, promettente, da giustificare, in parte la mia (e non solo) delusione, rispetto a questo nuovo Solar Power. Ad un riascolto pacato, dopo alcuni giorni di "marinatura", risulta meno deludente, il songwriting è ottimo (c'è lo zampino, indovinate un po', di Jack Antonoff, pure qui), i testi mai banali, la voce di Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor sempre splendida, Stoned at the Nail Salon (giustamente, secondo singolo, lo scopro adesso perché come forse saprete, forse no, cerco di tenermi alla larga dai singoli che anticipano gli album, sono molto old school) molto evocativa, insomma, non è certo un disco da buttare, ma io (e molti altri) avevamo alzato talmente l'asticella, che rimane un poco di amaro in bocca. Epperò la ragazza c'ha 24 anni, tutta una vita davanti per stupirci ancora. C'è di certo che anche il pop non è più quello di una volta, e sta crescendo, anche grazie ad artisti come Lorde.

Let's clarify one thing: Lorde is very good, talented, and I liked the previous album very much, so much so that it ended up on the podium in my very personal Top10 of 2017. And it was so beautiful, fresh, surprising, promising, to justify, in part mine (and not only) disappointment, compared to this new Solar Power. To a quiet listening, after a few days of marinating, it is less disappointing, the songwriting is excellent (there is a hand, guess what, by Jack Antonoff, here too), the lyrics never banal, the voice of Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor always splendid, Stoned at the Nail Salon (rightly, second single, I find out now because as you may know, maybe not, I try to keep away from the singles that anticipate the albums, I am very old school) very evocative, in short, it is certainly not a disc to be thrown away, but I (and many others) had raised the bar so much that there is a little bitterness in the mouth. But, the girl has 24 years, a whole life ahead to amaze us again. It is certain that even pop is no longer what it once was, and is growing, also thanks to artists like Lorde.
