Colors II - Between the Buried and Me (2021)

Non potete saperlo quindi ve lo dico io, fino a questa sera qua non conoscevo assolutamente i Between the Buried and Me, ed ecco che non posso parlarvi del predecessore Colors (del 2007, il loro quarto album, mentre questo è il loro decimo), ma solo tentare di capire il combo proveniente da Raleigh, North Carolina. Nella recensione del live, tra l'altro non ero riuscito neppure a vedere tutto il loro set, li avevo definiti una specie di Elio e le storie tese un poco più "seri", probabilmente avrei dovuto definirli "un poco più metal". Con questo disco non fanno altro che affermare che non hanno alcune intenzione di cambiare il loro modo di affrontare la musica, che non vogliono essere incasellati dentro ad un genere. Sono oltremodo spiazzanti, ed è il loro marchio di fabbrica. Dal progressive metal ricercato e tecnico agli inserti di death metal con tanto di voce harsh, un disco monumentale che a tratti sembra uno scherzo. Prendere o lasciare.

You can't know so I tell you, until that night I absolutely didn't know Between the Buried and Me, and here I can't tell you about the predecessor Colors (2007, their fourth album, while this is their tenth), but just try to figure out the combo coming from Raleigh, North Carolina. In the review of the live, among other things I had not even been able to see their entire set, I had defined them as a kind of Elio e le storie tese a little more "serious", I probably should have called them "a little more metal". With this record they do nothing but affirm that they have no intention of changing their way of dealing with music, that they do not want to be pigeonholed into a genre. They are extremely unsettling, and it is their trademark. From sophisticated and technical progressive metal to death metal inserts complete with harsh vocals, a monumental record that at times seems like a joke. Take it or leave it.
